Medical Causes of Excessive Sweating

By Michael Lee

There are several medical causes of excessive sweating. If you feel like you’re sweating more than the regular guy or girl, or if you sweat even though you haven’t done anything effortful, then this article is for you.

Sweating is usually caused by the hot weather, physical activity, spicy foods, anxiety… You know how this goes. But there are indeed medical causes of excessive sweating which might help explain your own situation.

1) The Sweat Glands Did It.

While the sweat glands naturally produce sweat, some people have more active sweat glands than others. This is one of the medical causes of excessive sweating. Experts call this hyperhidrosis.

This is basically the result of overactive sweat glands and usually occurs in the arm pits, under the breasts, soles, palms and even the groin.

2) In The Medicine

Sometimes, the culprit of excessive sweating is in medicine. It’s common knowledge that some drugs have side effects.

In this case, you have to watch out for morphine, drugs for fever and drugs for mental disorders. If you have taken any of these, they could contribute to excessive perspiration.

3) Withdrawal Symptoms

Another medical cause of excessive sweating is when you have recently quit drinking or narcotic pain killers.

If you have recently stopped drinking heavily and don’t eat enough food, you might find yourself dealing with delirium tremens. This state is also responsible for sweating and possible mental changes.

While these medical causes of excessive sweating might hit you right on the mark, it’s still wise to schedule an appointment with a doctor. There are other hidden causes which might not have been tackled in this article.
